Electrical installation of the Somfy Outdoor Camera
WARNING! Disconnect the power before touching any electrical installation. Working on an electrical installation is hazardous. If you are not qualified to do so, use the services of a qualified professional.
Before beginning, check the conditions and equipment required for installing the camera > Before installing the Somfy Outdoor Camera
Your Somfy Outdoor Camera may be connected through one of three methods:
1. Drill the holes for the mounting plate
Before drilling, ensure the area is free of embedded pipes and electrical cables. Adhere to all local regulations. After reading the installation advice and choosing the best location for the camera:
- Position the mounting plate in the desired location
- Mark the locations of the holes using a pencil
- Drill the holes using a 5mm bit
- Insert the wall plugs into the holes
Warning! Connect the mounting plate to the electrical connection before attaching it to the wall.
2. Connecting the power supply to the mounting plate
Take the mounting plate to the electrical feed line:
- Disengage the electrical feed line
- Prepare the electrical wires
- Identify the left part of the terminal on the mounting plate, marked with an alternating current symbol (a wave)
- Connect the blue wire (neutral) to the N terminal
- Connect the brown wire (live) to the L terminal
- The earth wire (ground) is not needed
3. Attach the mounting plate
Once step 2 is complete:
- Arrange the cabling behind the mounting plate to allow the plate to sit flush with the wall
- Use a crosshead screwdriver to attach the mounting plate to the wall using the supplied screws
4. Attach the camera
- Clip the camera onto the mounting plate
- Now secure the camera using the screw on the lower part of the mounting plate with the supplied Allen key
5. Reconnect the power
Your camera is now installed and you can restore power to the electrical panel. After a few seconds:
- The camera will start and emit a beep
- The LED on the front will turn blue, then begin to flash
1. Drill the holes for the mounting plate
Before drilling, ensure the area is free of embedded pipes and electrical cables. Adhere to all local regulations. After reading the installation advice and choosing the best location for the camera, taking your existing light into account:
- Position the mounting plate in the desired location
- Mark the locations of the holes using a pencil
- Drill the holes using a 5mm bit
- Insert the wall plugs into the holes
Warning! Connect the mounting plate to the electrical connection before attaching it to the wall.
2. Connecting the power supply to the mounting plate
First step: Connecting the camera power supply
- Remove your existing light by unplugging its power supply
- Disengage the electrical wires to prepare the cabling
- Ready an outdoor electrical cable
- Attach it to the wires you just disengaged (you can use a terminal or connector block to make the connection) and then direct it towards the camera mounting plate
- Identify the left part of the mounting plate terminal block marked by an alternating current symbol (a wave)
- Connect the blue wire (neutral) to the N terminal
- Connect the brown wire (Live) to the L terminal
- The earth wire (ground) is not needed
Second step: Light control
To control your light, you need to connect it to your camera mounting plate:
- Ready a second outdoor electrical cable of the same length as the first
- Identify the right section of the camera mounting plate marked by a lightbulb symbol
- Connect the blue wire (neutral) to the N terminal
- Connect the brown wire (Live) to the L terminal
- The earth wire (ground) is not needed
- Then direct the cable towards your light and connect it to the light in order to control it
Third step: Finishing and securing the wiring
Your mounting plate should now have two electrical cables connected:
- One for the power supply
- The other for controlling your light
You can now:
- Return your light to its original location
- Reconnect the earth wire if it was disconnected
- Protect the two cables connecting the light to the camera with a casing or cable clips fixed to the wall
- Your light will switch on, showing it is properly connected
